If you already have a SonicWall appliance but it’s been a while since you performed an audit, get in touch for a free health check.
Perhaps an ex-employee installed your SonicWall appliance but has since left the business and, while everything is running smoothly, you’ve unknowingly been left exposed to emerging threats. Or perhaps you just want to make sure that your firewall is patched with the latest firmware.
For a healthy defence, the following actions are recommended:
Check redundant links
- Removal of redundant links, which could be potential sources of attack if compromised.
Keep policies up-to-date
- A check on all policies to ensure they’re still relevant and in use. An attack could come from old or redundant rules, especially if the other end is unknowingly compromised.
Lock down access rules
- Are your rules vague? Refining your policies to be as specific as possible will reduce exposure to attack. Most third party providers will give details of exactly what needs to be open.
Review NAT policies
- What are the destinations? Are they suitably fortified?
- Have you switched off or replaced a system/application/server but the NAT still exists? This leaves the new system (or something completely unrelated that shouldn’t be available externally) exposed to attack. More importantly, old systems that use end-of-life technologies are a serious vulnerability, even if unused. Have they been decommissioned?
Delete VPNs
- VPNs are notorious for never being deleted!
Licence check
- Is your SonicWall licencing up-to-date? Not only do you get industry leading security protection but also, in the case of hardware failure, an advanced replacement. Perhaps the licence has lapsed in the past and the warranty is no longer in sync with the renewal.
Allow us access remotely, and we can go through the above list and provide recommendations.
